1st ever State & National honors announced

A big round of applause goes out to Leroy Enzugusi and Jack Ramsey for their outstanding play this season. Both are receiving awards, never received befor by a Linn-Mar Mens Soccer player.

Enzugusi, who just completed his Junior season as both the Gatorade Player of the Year and the Des Moines Register’s Player of the year, has been recognized as an All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He is one of just 16 players in the nation being recognized, amongst teams that play high school soccer in the spring.

Leroy set single season records for goals (27) and offensive points (70), and has already surpassed our program’s career goals (52), assists (33), and offensive points (137).  He also was awarded 1st Team All-State, 1st Team All-Conference & All-Metro, and was the Valley Division’s Athlete of the Year.

NSCAA All-American Awards

Ramsey, who graduated this year, and will continue his soccer career at Drake University (Iowa’s ONLY NCAA Division I college soccer program) has been named the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association (IAHSSCA) Mr. Iowa Soccer. The award is given annually to one male and one female graduating senior.  In addition to being an outstanding player, the nominees must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, demonstrate superb sportsmanship, and contribute to the betterment of his/her community through volunteer work.

In four years of play at Linn-Mar, Jack started in 73 of 83 games that he played in, scoring 8 goals (2 game-winning) and assisting on 5 others. He earned the following accolades each year:

  • Freshman-2nd Team All Metro, 2nd Team All Conference
  • Sophomore-1st Team All Metro, 1st Team All Conference, 2nd Team All State
  • Junior-1st Team All Metro, 1st Team All Conference, 2nd Team All State, IAHSSCA All State Tournament Team Captain
  • Senior-1st Team All Metro, 1st Team All Conference, 1st Team All State, Gatorade Player of the Year Nominee, Des Moines Register All Iowa Elite & 3A Team, IAHSSCA Senior East/West All-Star Game Selection

In addition to soccer, Jack was an accomplished swimmer for the Lions during his freshman and sophomore years, and has been active at his church.

Congratulations Leroy & Jack!!

In addition, both Leroy & Jack were named to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Spring All-Region, Midwest Team. Only Linn-Mar Soccer and Nebraska’s Creighton Prep have bragging rights as the only two Midwest schools with more than player named to this prestigious team! Congratulations, once again!!

And as previously announced, Linn-Mar placed 3 more players on the Iowa All-State Teams this year.  In addition to Leroy and Jack, Devin Eby earned a place on this year’s Honorable Mention team. This was the first time that the 2016 graduate and single-season assist leader had earned All-State recognition. Congratulations Devin!!
